Our Activities
Custom-made Resources
One of the strengths of the CLT is that it is not bound by any commercial considerations when it produces its resources, generally in-house. We do not make products in bulk that will be sold for profit. In fact, the materials are given free of any charge to all the recipients. Our goal is the make products that are economical, highly effective and liked and enjoyed both by those having therapy and the therapists. Ensuring the resources are tailored to the precise requirements of the target groups is a high priority.
Miniature Dioramas
Setting up a multi-purpose, demountable assembly for creating miniature dioramas.
Three different examples of dioramas are shown.
Recipients
Currently, there are four organisations in Cluj-Napoca, Romania that we are collaborating with. These are the Hungarian School for the Deaf No.2 (now Kozmutza Flóra Hallássérültek Speciális Iskolája), Maltez Kindergarten, the Hungarian Reformed Church Kindergarten and the Asociația Autism Transilvania (AAT). In the UK we are working with four early years and seven adult Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) groups in Kent.

COMMENT
Romanian special needs teacher recipient of CLT resources
"When I was first introduced to miniature dioramas I was both fascinated and terrified. I was sure the miniature things would not last seconds in their hands. I was proven wrong. Our 5th graders seemed to magically change their hands while handling these tiny objects. They had not seen anything like this before, so they studied, felt and held them with much more attention and care, developing better hand coordination. It also opened a new world of imagination where speech development became a creative game and not an old boring learning activity."
Classroom and therapy room maintenance
The CSEF charity upgraded over 40 classrooms and therapy rooms at special needs organisations in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. An important remit of the CLT is to continue maintenance of these rooms, Many rooms require attention.
The extent and high standard of the refurbishments undertaken by the CSEF in Romania is apparent in these ‘before and after’ pictures of the areas concerned.
The Laurie Whelan Education Awards
These awards were established in 2015 to honour the memory of Laurie Whelan, who was a long-serving trustee of the CSEF. The awards allow selected Romanian healthcare professionals get funding for short-term vocational training. The support enables them to attend seminars and to visit institutions and individuals associated with their profession to gain valuable practical knowledge and experience. The awards are given to qualified clinicians working in primary healthcare and to other associated healthcare professions.
The main aims of the awards are to develop and to enhance healthcare in Romania. The initiative encourages Romanian healthcare professionals to advance their knowledge and skills, particularly those at the start of their careers.
The CLT continues to support this initiative.
